Don’t lose your game with these common injuries

Common Sports Injures | Hercules PT | Vero Beach Physical Therapy

Here’s the thing about sports injuries—they don’t discriminate.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior hitting the tennis courts or a full-blown athlete chasing PRs, injuries can happen to anyone.

And nothing derails your momentum like a twisted ankle or an angry shoulder. But don’t worry, that’s where Vero Beach physical therapy comes in to save the day.

I’m going to walk you through the most common sports injuries and show you exactly how physical therapy gets you off the couch and back to doing what you love. Let’s do this.

1. The Classic: Ankle Sprains

Ah, the good ol’ ankle sprain.

You’re running, you land funny, and BOOM—suddenly you’re wobbling around like a baby giraffe. Happens all the time. Especially in sports like basketball or soccer. If you’re an athlete or active adult (you’re still an athlete) these can be a bigger deal than you think.

What PT Does:

  • First, we’ll calm that swelling down.

  • Then, we’ll get your strength and balance back with exercises so you’re not constantly worried about rolling it again.

  • After, we’ll work on sport specific drills to get you back on the road or the field feeling more confident than ever

2. The Big One: ACL Tears

An ACL tear is like the ultimate buzzkill for any athlete.

One wrong move—a quick pivot, an awkward landing—and your knee decides it’s done for the day (or season). This is any rec sports and youth athletes nightmare. But we can avoid it! That’s what PT is for!

What PT Does:

  • Post-surgery? We’ve got you covered with a recovery plan that doesn’t feel like torture.

  • We focus on building strength around the knee so it’s bulletproof next time.

  • Oh, and we’ll get that range of motion back so your leg doesn’t feel like a rusty hinge.

  • Bonus: If you want to avoid this ever happening, PT is the perfect place to PREHAB and get stronger so it never happens to you.

3. Rotator Cuff Injuries

Shoulders take a beating—especially if you’re a swimmer, tennis player, crossfitter or someone who loves throwing weights around.

The rotator cuff muscles are small but mighty, and when they’re injured, even simple things (like lifting your coffee cup) feel like a Herculean task. See what I did there?!

What PT Does:

  • First, we’ll get rid of that pain with some hands-on techniques (magic fingers alert).’

  • If you’re up for it, we’ll work in some dry needling to get you out of pain and start the healing process sooner

  • Then, we’ll build up the muscles around your shoulder so it doesn’t feel wobbly.

  • You’ll be back to overhead serves or swimming laps in no time.

4. Tennis Elbow (and its Not-So-Famous Cousin, Golfer’s Elbow)

Tennis elbow isn’t just for tennis players—it’s for anyone who’s been overdoing it with their wrists and forearms (looking at you, golfers and desk jockeys).

I know in vero pickleball is becoming more popular than tennis though, so maybe they need to change that name..

Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are like the left and right Twix of elbow pain—they’re similar but annoyingly different. Tennis elbow hits the outside of your elbow (lateral epicondyle) and comes from overusing the muscles that extend your wrist.

Basically, if your backhand is weak or you spend too much time gripping things (looking at you, pickleball fans), this is your punishment.

Golfer’s elbow, on the other hand, targets the inside of your elbow (medial epicondyle) and loves to mess with the muscles you use to flex your wrist. It’s not just for golfers, though—it’s for anyone who’s out there over-swinging clubs, kettlebells, or even hammers. So, to sum it up: same elbow drama, different zip codes.

Physical Therapy with us will..

  • Reduce the pain with some manual therapy magic.

  • Strengthen the wrist and forearm so they can handle the grind.

  • Help you avoid those little tweaks that got you into this mess.
